Starting a pet shop in India? It’s not just about business — it’s about responsibility. Every pet shop must be registered with the State Animal Welfare Board to ensure ethical animal treatment and legal compliance.

Why Do You Need a License?

• Unregistered shops may be sealed
• Animals may be confiscated
• You may face legal action

State Board and SPCA can inspect your shop anytime. Denying access can lead to license cancellation.

Who Can Apply?

👤 Individual

• ✔️ 18+ years old
• ✔️ Mentally sound
• ✔️ Not barred legally from contracts

🏢 Company

• ✔️ Must be a registered entity in India

4-Step Registration Process

1. 1. Step 1: Application
      Submit Form-I to your State Board with ₹5,000 fee and an affidavit. Include details about your shop, vet access, ventilation, and animals for sale.

1. 1. Step 2: Receive Certificate
      If approved, receive a non-transferable license valid for 5 years. You must file an annual animal report.

1. 1. Step 3: Shop Inspection
      A government-approved vet inspects your shop within 3 months and submits a report.

1. Step 4: Final Approval
   Based on the report, the Board either continues or revokes your registration (with 30 days’ notice if revoked).
